CHALK THE WALK IN GIG HARBOR in front of FULL MOON GALLERY

Chalk Painting by Pat Meras and The Wind

Winner of The People's Choice Award
Thank you, People!

Always a great event, this takes place the same weekend
as the Gig Harbor Summer Art Fair.
Four professional artists are hired by the Gig Harbor Historical
Waterfront Assoc. to do chalk paintings of marine scenes on
walkways around the harbor.
This year, we had a surprise guest artist...The WIND.
Half my pigment went up in a rainbow funnel cloud,
Disney movie style.
Determined to remain undaunted, I decided it was not much
different from the experience of painting in general.
You have somewhat of a plan in mind, but somewhere into the
process, the painting takes on a life of its own and tells you what
it wants.  In this case, it was becoming more impressionistic and.....
rather windswept.  After repeated attempts to restore it,
and repeated surprise wind gusts,
the wind and I put down our weapons.
It was more of a dual than a collaboration, and here lies the truce.
I like to think I asserted myself in front of Mother Nature though.

And now comes the rain.
